Refinishing Trim Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Follow SEM's two-step standard operating procedure (SOP) for consistent, professional automotive trim refinishing.
1. PREP
FOR METAL: Clean with SEM Solve or XXX Universal Surface Cleaner. Wipe clean in one direction with dry, lint-free cloth. Sand with P400 grit and blow off. Re-clean with SEM Solve or XXX Universal Surface Cleaner. Wipe clean in one direction with dry, lint-free cloth.
FOR PLASTIC: Clean with SEM Soap and a gray scuff pad. Rinse with water and dry. Clean with Plastic & Leather Prep and a lint-free cloth.
Note: Repeat above steps if water does not bead on surface.
Tip: For TPO, EPDM, PP and similar plastic, apply Sand Free Adhesion Promoter.
2. APPLY
AEROSOL APPLICATION: Apply Trim Black.
Coats: 2 medium
Flash Time: 5 - 10 minutes between coats
Dry to touch in 1 hour, achieves full hardness in 24 - 48 hours.
SPRAY GUN APPLICATION: Reduce 1:1 with urethane reducer. Apply Trim Black.
Air Pressure: 20 -25 psi with non-HVLP equipment. 8 - 10 psi at the cap with HVLP.
Fluid Tip: 1.2 - 1.4
Coats: 2 medium wet
Flash Time: 5 - 10 minutes between coats
Dry to touch in 1 hour, achieves fill hardness in 24 - 48 hours.
